Pinoy game 'Good Knight' and PH VTubers collaborate to wow CONQuest attendees

A recent collaboration between the Pinoy-made PC game "Good Knight" and the Philippine VTuber community produced impressive results.

Since late last year, Philippine VTubers have been streaming their "Good Knight" gaming sessions on their Twitch and YouTube platforms. This July, "Good Knight" developers Alex Valdez and Zaid Al-Shaheed thanked their VTuber friends through a collaborative event called Good Knight x PHVTubers, which was held at the CONQuest Festival at the SMX Convention Center at Pasay from July 23 to 24.

The Good Knight x PHVTubers event involved the installation of a small booth at the convention center. Within two days, this booth made over 1,500 sales of "Good Knight" and Philippine VTuber paraphernalia including posters and stickers. It also enjoyed a constant stream of visitors, with around 10 to 30 people constantly lining up to check out the merchandise and/or play the game. There was also an auction that saw some Philippine VTuber standees selling for P5,000 or more.

The event kicked off "a new boost of morale and confidence" for the VTubers in the community, according to Valdez and Al-Shaheed.

The "Good Knight" team said that the collaborative event had four objectives: to improve its connection with the "Good Knight" community, to connect the Philippine VTubers who play "Good Knight" with their own communities, to show everyone that they're more loved than they realize, and to give courage to everyone to make their own merchandise for fans.

The "Good Knight" team dedicated the event to Oborizuki Yume, their first "Good Knight" merchandise customer prior to COVID-19, who then became a Philippine VTuber before passing away from cancer.

The event saw the participation of 40 Philippine VTubers, including Xelafina, Gupsy, Hachi Paws, Cornelia Star, Shiori Pon, Moeri, and Pan the Bread.

Xelafina is the "Good Knight" team's biggest collaborator and was an important part of Good Knight x PHVTubers. The game developers previously worked with her at several conventions and on merchandise production, which was why she was the first person Valdez contacted about the event.

Hachi Paws works in Japan but returned to the Philippines to help out with Good Knight x PHVTubers. Having a booth at a convention was one of her dreams, so she was happy to be part of the event.

Cornelia Star is a cheerful VTuber whom Valdez believes was the first Philippine VTuber to stream "Good Knight."

Like some of the other collaborators, Gupsy had her own project, which was called GupsyBites and sold food.

A well-loved Philippine VTuber, Shiori Pon is a surgeon in real life. She uses the profits from her streams to offer free treatments to clients who can't afford medical services.

Moeri also lives abroad. While internationally famous, she doesn't have many fans in the Philippines. Valdez hopes Good Knight x PHVTubers introduced more local anime fans and gamers to her work and proved to her that she's more loved than she thinks.

Pan the Bread, an extremely popular VTuber, attracted many customers to the booth and sold an enormous amount of merchandise.

Valdez said that the collaboration got the "Good Knight" PHVTubers excited, encouraging many of them to plan a lot of things for the future, including more merchandise, booths, and others. Small wonder Gupsy, Cornelia Star, Hachi Paws, and Pinyapple Pie have since started a project called PHVTuber Collective.

Valdez also says that Good Knight x PHVTubers wouldn't have been possible without the assistance of Philippine VTuber Rarazana and Instilled Bee, who volunteered assistance and brought equipment for the booth.

"Good Knight" is a mashup of various genres, including bullet hell, puzzle, shooter, and arcade. The result? A game any casual gamer can pick up but that will challenge even the most grizzled gaming veterans. It's steeped in Filipino mythology and culture, which is a definite bonus.

"Good Knight" is in Early Access on Steam and has been accumulating positive reviews since its release in September 2021.
